USA TOPS INDIVIDUALS AT 2008 FEI WORLD REINING CHAMPIONSHIP
Manerbio City, IT - September 14, 2008 – The top 20 individuals from the 2008 FEI World Reining Championships Team Competition went head-to-head today in Manerbio, Italy for FEI Gold, Silver and Bronze medals today. According to the unofficial results, the $30,000 clean-slate final included eleven horse and rider combinations marking in excess of 220 points. Ten countries were represented in the final with Team USA rider Jordan Larson and Lapke Quarter Horse's Lena Gallo scoring a 228 to take the FEI Gold Medal. Italy's Dario Carmignani and Pietro Angelo De Angelis' ARC Magic Enterprise marked just one point less to finish in second for the FEI Silver Medal. Team USA representatives Craig Schmersal and Mr Dual Rey, owned by Holly Casey, and Team Italy members Gennaro Lendi and his Playing It Out both scored a 225 to tie for the FEI Bronze Medal.
The conclusion of the 2008 FEI World Reining Championship marks a very memorable and historic moment for the sport of Reining. It was, in fact, the first time in history for FEI medals to be awarded outside of the World Equestrian Games (WEG). FEI approve Reining competitions starting in 2001 making the Sport the only western discipline of riding approved by the organization. For the first time ever in the history of equestrian sports, the FEI welcomed Team and Individual Reining Competition to the 2002 World Equestrian Games. The next WEG is scheduled for 2010 in Lexington, Kentucky.
